The New England Revolution have brought in another midfielder as they continue to rework their roster ahead of the 2025 season. The club announced on Wednesday morning that it has signed Allan Oyirwoth, a 17-year-old central midfielder from Uganda, to its supplemental roster.

Oyirwoth's contract is set to take effect on his 18th birthday, Jan. 23. It runs through the 2028 MLS season, and the club holds an option to extend it through 2029.

Although he is a young and largely unknown prospect, Oyirwoth already has international experience. He has won two caps for the Ugandan national team, including his 2023 debut, when he provided an assist in a 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Somalia. At the local level, he played extensively for Amus College School in Uganda.

Revolution head coach Caleb Porter praised the teenager in a statement released by the team. "Allan is a talented young midfielder with a tremendous upside and I'm excited to help him reach his potential," Porter said. He added that Oyirwoth, at just 17, is technically gifted and has a frame and athletic range that "profiles well for MLS."

Porter also expressed confidence in the player's future with the club. "With time to develop in our training environment, I'm confident he can blossom into an impact midfielder for our first team," the coach said.

The signing fits a wider effort by New England to promote and develop younger players, with the possibility of selling them on for a significant return. That approach recently paid off when former Revolution winger Esmir Bajraktarevic moved to PSV Eindhoven for a reported fee of $6 million.

How much Oyirwoth contributes to the Revolution midfield in his first professional season, in a new country, remains to be seen. The club is clearly aiming to nurture his potential, and he appears to have a high ceiling as a player.

New England will open its 2025 MLS campaign on Feb. 22 with a road match against Nashville SC.
